Like a good neighbor

We went out for dinner last night. Once home, we were getting out of the rickshaw when we heard -"Hello! Come in!"

There were two ladies standing in the dark doorway of the house next door. They beckoned us in. "Our husbands have told us about you! We thought you were going to come visit! Welcome! What's your name?" The house was suddenly full of chatter. There were three beautiful women offering us juice and a seat.

None of them are Sudanese. Originally from Yemen, Kenya and Eritrea, they are all now loosely related through their husbands. They all live in apartments in this one building. There are several children- one being a small baby girl, only two months old. They put a bit of coal around her eyes. Make-up. Or something like it. She's beautiful.

We spend several minutes chatting. And then they invited us to come join them for Iftar on Tuesday. Nice! We offered to bring something- "no" they said. This time we try their food. Next time, they'll try ours!

Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
